As a fourth generation Irish American, Robert William “Bobby” Flay was born in 1964 and raised in the upper east side neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. Flay, a high school dropout, took his first job in a pizza parlor and Baskin-Robbins.
Subsequently, Flay returned to school and received a degree in culinary arts from the French Culinary Institute at the age of 20. He received the “Outstanding Graduate Award” in 1993 from the French Culinary Institute, now known as the International Culinary Center.
Today, Flay is a successful restaurateur, celebrity chef and reality television personality, best known for his many battles on Iron Chef America. Flay is a multiple Emmy award and James Beard Foundation award winner.
