Nets Jason collins

Nets Jason collins, Reports indicate that at least one club will not shy away from free agent center Jason Collins after the veteran came out as gay in an interview with Sports Illustrated this spring.

The New York Daily News confirms a Yahoo Sports report that the Brooklyn Nets are interested in bringing in Collins after the trade to acquire Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce wiped out their bench, even with the Nets keeping Reggie Evans and sending MarShon Brooks in the deal, as Ken Berger reported Friday.

Collins would give a veteran team focused on a title an established center who can rebound and play defense. Collins was actually very effective for the Hawks two years ago, particularly against Dwight Howard, before falling out of the rotation last season with Boston.

Should Collins join the Nets and gain playing time, it would be the first minutes of game time for an openly gay NBA player in history. Former NBA center John Amaechi revealed he was gay after his retirement in 2003.

While the discussions haven't gone further than Collins "name being brought up" according to the Daily News, the idea certainly makes sense.
