Idyllwild Fire Destroys Over 14,000 Acres, The Idyllwild fire has destroyed over 14,000 acres of land and at least six homes. Mandatory evacuations continue as the blaze is only 10 percent contained at this time.

The majority of damage is being experienced in the Apple Canyon and Mountain Center areas. The fire, which was first reported on Monday, continues to burn out of control. A total of 15 structures have been destroyed or severely damaged.

As reported by KTLA, over 2,000 firefighters were dispatched to the area. Authorities have ordered the evacuation of the Bonita Vista community, Camp Ronald McDonald, the Fleming Ranch Animal Sanctuary, and the Zen Mountain Center. Two dozen homes in the Andreas Canyon Club were also included in the evacuations.

Numerous roads and trails have been closed to protect residents and visitors. The Pacific Crest Trail remains closed between State Highway 74 and Saddle Junction. Additionally, trails connecting to the PCT, including Cedar Springs, Carumba Trail, Fobes Trail, South Ridge Trail, and Spitler Peak Trail are now closed.

Highway 234 is also closed, between Highway 74 and Saunders Meadow Road.

Residents and animals displaced by the Idyllwild fire are being offered shelter at several locations.Helmet High school and Hamilton High School are offering shelter for residents. Hamilton High School will allow residents to bring small pets.

Pets are also being accepted at the Lake Hemet Campground and San Jacinto Animal Shelter.

As reported by The Los Angeles Times, the cause of the fire is unknown, but under investigation. Authorities report that hot and dry conditions have made the fire difficult to contain.

Firefighters are unable to reach a large portion of the fire as it is in a remote location.

The fire is expected to spread quickly. However, officials expect it will slow down as it spreads to lower elevations.

With the exception of one minor injury, nobody has been injured or killed by the Idyllwild fire.
