Lincecum's name has once again started to pop up in rumors -- after his personal hot stove had started to cool off during yet another down season -- thanks to his recent no-hitter of the Padres. Interested teams don't necessarily want him to start, though.
The clubs intrigued by the undersized righty are looking to add him to bolster their bullpens instead, per Morosi's report. Lincecum was used effectively out of the Giants bullpen during the playoffs in 2012, but he has pitched as a starter his entire career other than the 2012 playoffs. As he's been generally awful as a starter for his last 300-plus innings, though, it might be time for a change, especially right before free agency.
Morosi notes that Lincecum is loved by the fans in San Francisco, and that it is also tough to break up a World Series-winning roster, but ultimately the team could benefit from selling high on his recent performance.
All of this hinges on whether the Giants decide to buy or sell at the deadline this year, though, and with the division still within reach, it is not a given that they will sell.
